1967 Road Test Issue Featured Three-Dimensional Trunk Volume Diagrams

A February 1967 issue of Road Test magazine included three-dimensional drawings that mapped trunk volumes and shapes for major economy-import cars of the era, presenting each trunk as a dimensional solid.

Rather than reporting only cubic feet or suitcase counts, Road Test measured interior contours and used those measurements to produce three-dimensional solids showing trunk shape and location within the car. The issue compared economy imports including Simca, Volkswagen, Fiat, Datsun, Opel and Ford.

The diagrams excluded secondary rear luggage wells on rear-engined models such as the Volkswagen Beetle and Fiat 600, which reduced apparent capacity for those cars. Road Test's trunk illustrations remain a distinctive example of detailed, visual automotive measurement from the 1960s.
