Mercedes‑Benz unveiled the 2027 GLS at its Tuscaloosa, Alabama plant, updating the three‑row SUV with revised powertrains, an optional illuminated hood ornament and enhanced interior technology.
The GLS580’s twin‑turbo 4.0‑liter V‑8 rises to 530 hp and 553 lb‑ft and gains a flat‑plane crank; the GLS450 keeps its 3.0‑liter inline‑six at 375 hp with torque up to 413 lb‑ft, and Mercedes‑Benz estimates 0–60 mph in 4.6 seconds for the V‑8 and 5.4 seconds for the six.
All GLS models carry all‑wheel drive with a two‑speed transfer case and a 1:2.93 low range, and Mercedes‑Benz says third‑row passengers up to 6 ft 4 in can be accommodated with optional climate control as part of a five‑zone system.
The cabin is dominated by the MBUX Superscreen, three 12.3‑inch displays behind a single pane of glass, and the Mercedes‑Benz Operating System adds AI features that the company says will let the GLS "think, learn, and evolve" with customers; the illuminated hood ornament is optional.
