BMW Reveals Touring Estate Version of Long‑Range I3 Electric 3 Series

BMW confirmed its new electric 3 Series, the i3, will be offered in Touring estate form.

A silhouette shown at the i3 unveiling hinted at a different roofline and hatchback boot; BMW says the i3 has a 559-mile range using a 108kWh nickel‑manganese‑cobalt battery and new-generation front and rear electric motors. BMW said the Touring will appeal to business customers and families, has not published boot capacity for the i3, and the i3 and iX3 mark the start of BMW’s Neue Klasse era — which CEO Oliver Zipse called “a new beginning” — while engineers say the petrol 3 Series “is basically a new car”.
