Jaguar Land Rover has confirmed that long-serving creative chief Gerry McGovern will leave the company at the end of March. Staff were informed via an internal memo that McGovern will establish his own creative consultancy; JLR confirmed the move after reports in December that he had been asked to step down.
McGovern, a Coventry-born designer and a prominent figure within JLR and the wider Tata Group, has been credited with the 2021 Reimagine strategy and key design projects including the reinvention of the Land Rover Defender, the continued success of the Range Rover line-up, and Jaguar’s Type 00 Concept. In the memo he thanked the Tata family and colleagues for the opportunity and said he looked forward to the next chapter; JLR CEO PB Balaji praised his “creative leadership, vision, drive and passion.”
