BMW Eyes Larger-Than-X7 SUV for U.S. Market

BMW says it is investigating the possibility of an SUV larger than the X7 but has made no commitment to build one. Senior vice president Bernd Koerber confirmed the automaker has explored the idea while stopping short of any promise.

Koerber and BMW dealers say U.S. demand for full-size SUVs could support a larger model—possibly badged X9—to rival the Escalade, Navigator and Infiniti QX80. They noted such a vehicle would suit the U.S., Middle East and China but could be impractical in Europe, and that the X7’s third row and cargo remain tighter than segment leaders.
