Volvo Near Bottom in J.D. Power 2026 Dependability Rankings

Volvo placed next-to-last in J.D. Power’s 2026 Vehicle Dependability Study, with owners reporting 296 problems per 100 vehicles versus a 204-industry average.

Volvo’s 296 is just ahead of Volkswagen’s 301 but worse than Jeep (267) and Land Rover (274); J.D. Power highlighted frustration with over-the-air updates and higher problem rates for plug-in hybrids and EVs, and Volvo’s heavy PHEV/EV lineup and software reliability issues contributed to the decline from 242 problems per 100 vehicles in 2025 as the brand seeks recovery with next-generation EVs.
