Hyundai Halts Sales and Recalls Over 127,000 Palisade SUVS After Fatal Seat Incident

Hyundai has stopped sales of 2026 Palisade Limited and Calligraphy trims and finalized a recall of more than 127,000 Palisade SUVs worldwide after a March 7 Ohio incident that killed a two-year-old.

The defect involves power-operated second- and third-row seats that can fail to detect contact and may crush occupants or objects during power-folding and the one-touch tilt-and-slide function.

The recall covers 69,060 Palisades in North America—61,093 in the U.S. and 7,967 in Canada—and about 58,000 in South Korea; dealers were notified March 16 and Hyundai submitted the NHTSA filing March 17. Hyundai plans an interim over-the-air software update by the end of March to improve contact detection while a permanent dealer repair is developed and will be performed at no cost, with rental vehicles offered until fixes are available.
