Mercedes’ 2027 GLC Electric Gains OTA “Reverse Maneuvering” to Back out of Tight Roads

Mercedes will deliver a Reverse Maneuvering Function via a free over-the-air update for the 2027 GLC electric, enabling the SUV to automatically retrace roughly 100–150 meters to back out of narrow dead-end roads.

The GLC electric records the recent path locally using cameras, sonar and radar and engages when the driver selects reverse and taps "start reversing" on the touchscreen. The car handles steering while the driver controls throttle and brakes, speed is limited and a translucent green line shows the reversing path.

Mercedes tested the Euro-spec pre-production 2027 GLC electric near Faro, Portugal and said the system worked almost flawlessly, though no release date has been announced; the GLC electric itself is due in the U.S. later this year.
