Autopian’s Murano CrossCabriolet Becomes Unsafe After Bearing and Axle Failure

The Autopian reports its 2014 Nissan Murano CrossCabriolet developed severely worn wheel bearings and failing front axles after a 4,050-mile cross-country test and modification program, leaving the car unsafe to drive.

The Autopian bought the CrossCabriolet with just over 100,000 miles and a torn right-front CV boot, then fitted a lift kit, Vredestein Pinza A/T tires, Ford Mustang Tri-Bar wheels and partial XPEL paint protection film.

During a roughly 500-mile leg to Flagstaff the project car began exhibiting a wheel-bearing whir that the site says worsened over time until last month the team feared the wheels might detach. The Autopian posted photos of the damaged bearings and axles and offered a simple swerving test to diagnose a noisy bearing, urging owners to inspect if they hear similar noises.
