Steve McQueen Owned a 1957 Jaguar XKSS as Jaguar Dominated 1950s Racing

Actor Steve McQueen owned a 1957 Jaguar XKSS (chassis XK.SS.713) among dozens of cars, more than 100 motorcycles and several airplanes at his death.

Jaguar dominated 1950s sports-car racing, winning Le Mans five times and securing consecutive wins in 1955–57, with Ecurie Ecosse taking the 1956 and 1957 victories.

The Jaguar D-Type, designed by Malcolm Sayer and developed under founder William Lyons, used a monocoque rear tub with a tubular front and an XK DOHC inline-six; early engines made about 250 hp with three side‑draft carburetors and dry‑sump lubrication. Steve McQueen's collection also included a Lotus 11, a 289 Cobra, Ferraris, Porsches and Packards, and Jaguar built 67 customer D‑Types plus factory racers that competed into the early 1960s before the model became dated.
