Audi Introduces EA897evo4: Electrified V6 TDI for Q5 and A6

Audi has announced the EA897evo4, an evolution of its V6 TDI with 48V MHEV Plus for the Q5 and A6, producing 295bhp and 428 lb‑ft of torque.

The 48V system integrates a belt‑driven starter‑alternator, a powertrain generator (hybrid drive motor‑generator), an electric compressor alongside a conventional turbocharger, and an electric air‑conditioning pump. The electric compressor provides near‑instant response and boosts low‑speed torque when exhaust pressure is insufficient to spool a conventional turbo.

Audi said the EA897evo4 improves response compared with earlier production versions and builds on 48V compressor studies the company ran in 2014, which showed benefits filling torque gaps below 1,500rpm and 1,250rpm. The engine is not expected to be offered in the UK due to diminishing diesel demand and higher cost.
