Plant City Pickup Stopped After Reports of Missile-Like Objects; Bomb Squad Finds Plastic Models

The Florida Highway Patrol stopped a Ford Maverick pickup in Plant City, Florida, after motorists reported rocket-like objects in its bed and identified the driver as Michael Nipper, who said the items were models.

Troopers summoned the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, Plant City Police Department, Plant City Fire Department and a bomb squad to establish a safety perimeter. The bomb squad examined the cargo and confirmed the objects were plastic model missiles assembled from a kit, according to WESH and CBS News.

Michael Nipper told reporters the models were for "shows and events," per those outlets. Officers received multiple public calls about the vehicle and warned against transporting such items in that manner.

Observers noted the larger replica resembled an AIM-120B AMRAAM air-to-air missile, which is normally launched from aircraft and prompted the public concern.
