The Wachowskis' 2008 film Speed Racer has been remastered in 4K and will return to U.S. theaters the week of April 25 at 225 locations, with a remastered 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray release scheduled for May 19.
The live-action Speed Racer, from filmmakers the Wachowskis, was released in 2008 and starred actor Emil Hirsch opposite actress Christina Ricci; the film adapts Tatsuo Yoshida's Mach Go Go Go anime and is noted for extensive computer effects and saturated visuals.
Speed Racer grossed about $94 million worldwide against an approximately $120 million budget on its initial release in 2008 and has since developed a cult following.
The theatrical run in 225 locations the week of April 25 precedes the May 19 home-video editions, and the 4K remaster highlights the film's distinctive color and visual design.
