Volkswagen will introduce a major overhaul of the Atlas for 2027, updating the eight-year-old crossover with an upgraded platform, increased power from its GTI-derived EA888 turbocharged four-cylinder, and more upscale exterior and interior appointments.
The Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport have been significant sellers for Volkswagen in the U.S., moving more than 572,000 units through 2025 and representing about 30% of Volkswagen’s U.S. sales last year.
Exterior revisions include a stronger beltline, harder angles, a more upright grille, LED lightbars, illuminated VW badges and a retained stacked headlight layout, plus three new paint colors: Blackberry, Sacramento Green and Sandtone. Volkswagen says most trims gain 20- or 21-inch aluminum-alloy wheels with machined or black finishes while the base model uses 18-inch wheels.
Volkswagen says the upgraded platform increases interior space and the 2027 Atlas will add family-friendly features and modern tech. Volkswagen also cites a more upscale cabin with soft-touch surfaces, real wood and metal trim across the range.
