In the clip Levi Finlayson-Gumbs is shown hand-tightening the drain plug before using a power tool to crank it down, and viewers responded with jokes about quick oil-change shops and overtightened plugs.
Overtightening can cause real damage: according to Car Talk, stripped threads are common, while CarParts warns excessive force can warp sealing surfaces, cause leaks or crack lightweight oil pans.
Most mechanics tighten by hand and finish with a torque wrench; repairs for overtightened plugs range from rethreading or installing an insert to replacing the oil pan, and many commenters connected the joke to Valvoline's service reputation.
