Subaru Adds Hybrid Powertrain to 2027 Forester Wilderness

Subaru will offer a 2027 Forester Wilderness Hybrid, bringing a hybrid powertrain to the Wilderness package to boost range and fuel efficiency while retaining off-road capability.

The Forester Wilderness Hybrid keeps 9.3 inches of ground clearance, all-terrain tires on 17-inch wheels, and rises to 194 horsepower versus 180 hp for the non-hybrid Forester Wilderness. Subaru quotes a 25 percent fuel-efficiency gain over the standard Wilderness, and Motor1 estimates roughly 35 mpg highway and just over 31 mpg city from available EPA figures.

Motor1 notes the hybrid system should fill in low-end torque gaps, which benefits off-road driving. Subaru has not announced pricing; the Forester Wilderness Hybrid is expected to go on sale in late 2026.
