Richard Childress Racing has hired Garrett Mitchell, known online as Cleetus McFarland, in a paid role to support his development as a driver and to leverage his social-media following.
Garrett Mitchell, a YouTuber turned semi-professional race car driver, has nearly 5 million YouTube followers and drew ARCA and NASCAR live streams approaching one million viewers. RCR vice president Danny Lawrence said the team expects to learn from Mitchell’s social-media expertise and bring his audience into the organization.
Mitchell said Ty Dillon, a member of the Dillon family at Richard Childress Racing, called to offer the team’s support, and that RCR secured funding for the arrangement with sponsor Tommy’s Express Car Wash; Mitchell added the driver contract was straightforward.
