Ford Q1 Sales Slip 9.2% as Mustang and SUVs Deliver Bright Spots

Ford reported first-quarter U.S. sales down 9.2 percent, with gains for the Mustang, several SUVs and entry-level trims offset by declines in electric vehicles and the F‑Series.

Entry-level Ranger XL sales rose 45.5 percent (the Ranger starts at $35,245) and entry-level Bronco Sport sales rose 10.3 percent, while the base Maverick and the three entry-level trims collectively increased 8.4 percent; Ranger Raptor sales climbed 36.1 percent and sales of the Explorer and Expedition rose 29.7 percent and 30.2 percent respectively.

Mustang sales jumped 50.1 percent in early 2026, with Ford selling 14,074 units from January through March and the Mustang outselling the electric Mustang Mach‑E, which fell 60.4 percent to 4,600 units; F‑150 Lightning sales dropped 71.3 percent as Ford prepares a range‑extended replacement.

Overall F‑Series deliveries fell 16.0 percent to 159,901 units from 177,796 a year earlier, yet F‑Series remained America’s best‑selling pickup, and Ford cited a supplier fire that disrupted production late last year.
