Cleetus McFarland to Debut at Rockingham as NASCAR Figures Offer Cautious Support

YouTuber Cleetus McFarland, real name Garrett Mitchell, will make his NASCAR O’Reilly Series debut this weekend at Rockingham Speedway, drawing cautious praise and concern from future NASCAR Hall of Famer Rodney Childers, crew chief for Carson Kvapil, a JR Motorsports driver.

Rodney Childers told Motorsport.com that McFarland brings valuable publicity but likely will struggle on track and that finishing would be remarkable; Childers said he is reassured that McFarland is running with Richard Childress Racing for coaching and spotting support.

Justin Allgaier, the 2024 champion and winner of 30 races, said prior to practice that the jump will be tougher for McFarland than for regular competitors but credited his effort and the attention he brings to the sport.

Carson Kvapil described the O’Reilly Series cars as highly aero-sensitive and harder to drive than ARCA and Trucks, warning that they move dramatically around other cars, which will be a major challenge for Garrett Mitchell’s Cleetus McFarland this weekend.
