A mechanic in a video posted by creator All Business refused to rotate a customer's tire after revealing exposed steel wires, and the customer later obtained a free replacement by calling corporate.
The technician declined because the tire's rubber was worn down to wires, which he said made it unsafe to reinstall. TireGrades notes many shops won't rotate tires with tread at or below about 4/32 inch or when tires are older than roughly six years.
In the clip the mechanic shows the removed tire and tells the customer he cannot rotate it, while the customer repeatedly asks why and presses for the service. All Business shared the footage on social media, where viewers largely agreed the tire was dangerously worn.
Auto repair shops can refuse rotations to avoid liability from allowing vehicles to leave on unsafe tires.
