Pep Boys Completes $350 Brake Repair After Dealership Raised Quote to $700, TikTok User Says

Julia Muirhead, a TikTok user, says a dealership increased its quoted price for rear brake pads and rotors from $380 to $700 when she brought the car in, so she declined the work and later had Pep Boys complete the same service for $350.

Muirhead says she chose the dealership because local shops quoted about $500 and she wanted to combine the brake work with a scheduled recall repair, but the price changed after the car was in the shop.

She says she signed a waiver acknowledging the brakes' condition before leaving and then took the car to Pep Boys, which she says completed the job the same day for $350 and which she praised in her TikTok.

Dealership estimates can rise after inspection if additional parts or labor are needed, and dealerships typically charge more for manufacturer parts and higher labor rates, but any price change should be clearly explained to the customer before work proceeds.
