GM EV1 No. 212 Bought for $104,000, GM Aids Restoration

A green 1997 GM EV1 found abandoned in a junkyard and sold at auction for $104,000 will be restored with General Motors’ help after buyer Billy Caruso, an Apple employee and owner of a small fleet of reborn early EVs, enlisted mechanic and YouTuber Jared Pink.

The abandoned vehicle, chassis No. 212, is the only privately titled EV1 known to exist and arrived with water damage, a broken windshield and a non-running drivetrain.

General Motors hosted Caruso and Pink in Detroit, opened its archives and supplied hard-to-find OEM parts including a replacement windshield, while Pink's The Questionable Garage began teardown and repairs.

The Questionable Garage posted a video showing a recent crate of parts from General Motors; with supplied parts and archives the team is working to return the EV1 to California roads.
