Mazda will not reintroduce the CX-3 or Mazda2 to the U.S. market in the near term, and next-generation versions are unlikely to arrive before 2027, Vinesh Bhindi, Mazda’s Australian boss, told Drive.
Mazda continues to sell both compact models in other markets and plans newer-generation models that are expected to share a platform and borrow styling cues from the X-Coupe concept.
Bhindi said Mazda has a "priority list" and limited R&D resources, which pushes the compact refresh behind models such as the new CX-5; the X-Coupe shows a driver-focused cabin with a flat-bottom steering wheel and no large dashboard screen.
Mazda did not provide specific launch details or confirm which markets will receive the next-generation Mazda2 and CX-3, and the company indicated more information will emerge in coming years.
