Mercedes-Benz G580 EV Recall: 3,734 Electric G-Wagens Recalled Over Wheel-Bolt Risk

Mercedes-Benz is recalling 3,734 G580 with EQ Technology electric G-Wagen SUVs in the U.S., built between February 26, 2024 and August 19, 2025, over wheel-bolt issues that can loosen or detach.

National Highway Traffic Safety Administration paperwork says bolts carried over from the combustion G-Class are not engineered for the electric G580's mass and quad-motor output (579 horsepower and 859 pound-feet), which can increase wear and the risk of a wheel separating during driving.

Mercedes-Benz will notify owners beginning May 22 and will have dealers replace the original bolts with a two-piece collared lug bolt designed to maintain friction and reduce wear; vehicles built after August 26, 2025 include the redesigned bolts from the factory.

Mercedes-Benz said it identified the defect during durability testing, opened an internal investigation, and believes real-world detachments are unlikely; the company reported no warranty claims, service reports, crashes, or deaths related to the issue.
