Mercedes‑AMG CLE63 to Feature New V‑8 in U.S.‑Focused Model, CEO Says

Mercedes‑AMG is developing an American‑spec CLE63 with a new V‑8, and Adam Chamberlain, CEO of Mercedes‑Benz USA, said the car exists but its timing is unconfirmed and it won’t arrive this year.

Mercedes has introduced a new 4.0‑liter twin‑turbo V‑8 that is in the 2027 S‑Class and will power the 2027 GLE580 and GLS580, rated at 530 hp and 553 lb‑ft; Mercedes‑AMG said it will tune performance variants.

Chamberlain said about 95 percent of CLE63 sales are expected in North America and the model is being developed for the American market; he added two or three other North‑America products are in development on a new platform that can support a V‑8.

The current top CLE is the Mercedes‑AMG CLE53 with a 3.0‑liter inline‑six making 443 hp, while the E53 wagon uses a plug‑in‑hybrid 3.0‑liter inline‑six rated at 577 hp, and Mercedes said the CLE63 is part of a roughly 40‑model, three‑year product offensive across ICE, hybrid and electric vehicles.
