Infiniti is exploring a high-performance version of its QX80 that could reach about 700 horsepower, Senior Vice President of U.S. Marketing and Sales Tiago Castro told The Drive at the 2026 New York Auto Show.
Castro said the current QX80 makes 450 horsepower and the company is debating whether to launch a 600-horsepower intermediate model or aim directly for roughly 700 horsepower, with timing and market opportunity central to the decision.
Castro pointed to sustained demand for high-power SUVs and noted the Cadillac Escalade V’s production challenges as evidence of market appetite. Infiniti previously displayed a GT-R–powered QX80 with about 1,000 horsepower at SEMA in November.
Infiniti is also developing a high-horsepower sports sedan that may offer a manual transmission, and Castro said any QX80 performance rollout would likely proceed in steps rather than all at once.
