Mercedes-Benz to Swap SL43 Four‑Cylinder for 3.0l M256 Evo Inline‑Six, Launching AMG SL53 in 2027 Facelift

Mercedes-Benz will replace the SL43's four-cylinder M139 with the 3.0-liter M256 Evo inline-six mild-hybrid and rebadge the entry model as the AMG SL53 for the 2027 facelift, Auto Motor und Sport reports.

The M256 Evo is reported to produce 449 horsepower and be supplemented by a 23-hp integrated starter-generator, and the AMG SL53 will come standard with all-wheel drive instead of the SL43's rear-wheel-drive layout.

Auto Motor und Sport also reports Mercedes-AMG will revise the twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 in the Mercedes-Benz SL55 and SL63, switching from a cross-plane to a flat-plane crank and raising outputs to 537 hp in the SL55 and 650 hp in the SL63. The report offered no details about the SL63 S E Performance plug-in hybrid.
