McLaren Artura Crash Foils Manhattan Parking-Garage Heist

Thieves attempted to steal several high-end vehicles from a parking garage on West 43rd Street in Manhattan before 6 a.m. Sunday, but a closing garage gate stopped their escape and the McLaren Artura crashed.

About four to five thieves broke into a McLaren Artura, a Mercedes-AMG G63, a Volvo XC60 and a Range Rover Sport, according to NBC 4 New York; garage attendants reportedly left keys in some vehicles.

The McLaren sped out before the gate closed and struck a pole, suffering heavy front-end damage and airbag deployment; the Range Rover was trapped when the gate came down and other cars were left damaged or abandoned, reports say.

Ahmed Kharboush, a Midtown food truck owner, told NY1 he saw the crash, and police say the suspects fled in a gray BMW; authorities have released no further details.
