Chevrolet Camaro to Return on Alpha 2 Platform as Front-Engine RWD for 2028

GM Authority reports Chevrolet will build the next-generation Camaro on GM's Alpha 2 platform as a front-engine, rear-wheel-drive model, with production scheduled to begin in fall 2027 for the 2028 model year.

The Camaro is expected to be assembled at the Lansing Grand River assembly plant in Michigan, which will also produce the Cadillac CT5 and a new Buick sedan on the Alpha architecture, according to the report.

Earlier coverage said GM president Mark Reuss had advocated for an electric, more affordable Camaro variant, but General Motors has pulled back on some EV targets while continuing long-term EV plans.

The report leaves final body style and powertrain choices open, though the Alpha 2 plan suggests Chevrolet may return the Camaro to a traditional internal-combustion performance layout rather than an EV SUV.
