McLaren to Hire Red Bull’s Gianpiero Lambiase as Chief Racing Officer

Gianpiero Lambiase, Red Bull’s race engineer and head of racing, is set to join McLaren as chief racing officer, while Red Bull says he will retain his current role for the upcoming F1 season and remains under contract until 2027.

Interest in Lambiase surfaced during the 2025 season from teams including Aston Martin and Williams, but McLaren emerged as the most logical destination because of its relative stability and strength in in-season development.

A Dutch newspaper, De Telegraaf, suggested Lambiase might replace McLaren leadership, a claim denied by both teams, and McLaren’s confirmed recruitment would give Lambiase broad responsibilities similar to those he built at Red Bull.

Red Bull has described the move as a significant loss of value, but the team says it will ensure continuity and find a successor in time.
