Porsche 963 Hit with Maximum BoP Penalty for IMSA Long Beach

IMSA has applied the maximum allowable balance-of-performance penalty to the Porsche 963 run by Porsche Penske Motorsport, setting its power at 480 kW and minimum weight at 1,100 kg for the Long Beach event.

The change adds 45 kilograms compared with Sebring. It is the first time the Hypercar/GTP regulations' most unfavorable 480 kW/1,100 kg rating has been used in IMSA.

JDC-Miller Motorsports’ previous-year Porsche receives a milder, separate BoP under different homologation status. Acura’s ARX-06 takes an eight-kilogram increase and loses ten kilowatts, Cadillac V-Series.R gains 15 kilograms and one kilowatt, and BMW M Hybrid V8 adds 11 kilograms while gaining nearly 7 kW; the Aston Martin Valkyrie remains at 520 kW and 1,030 kg.

The adjustment follows Porsche Penske Motorsport’s 1-2 result at the 12 Hours of Sebring, and officials set Long Beach’s low-speed reference up to 190 km/h versus 230 km/h at Sebring.
