Miata “Buddy” Goes Off-Road at Battle at Primm with Turbo Upgrade and Live Stream

Autopian is live-streaming the Battle at Primm off-road race April 11–12 with a two-camera setup mounted in "Buddy," the Off Road Miata.

The event runs around 2:15 p.m. PT each day with hour-and-twenty-minute heats on a 15-mile course featuring jumps, turns and fast sections. Buddy is the only Miata in the field and competes alongside Sportsman Trucks that have more power, larger tires and greater wheel travel.

Buddy has been converted from a Jackson Racing supercharger to a Garrett turbo and fitted with a MegaSquirt ECU, bringing power to nearly 200 horsepower—about 30 hp more than the prior supercharger and stock ECU setup. Suspension work with Hyperco added a dual-spring setup and a raised front for better whoop handling, while the car retains stock-length control arms and limited droop travel.

Autopian is streaming the races via StarStream and lists the full build at yeahbuddy.fun for details; streams are live during the April 11–12 race window. Top photo by photographer Erin Flaherty.
