Bentley to Launch PHEV Bentayga SUV in 2028 After Scaling Back EV Rollout

Bentley will launch the next Bentayga SUV as a plug-in hybrid in 2028 after scrapping plans to introduce five new electric models by 2030, including an electric Bentayga successor.

Porsche delayed the Sport ('61') electric platform on the Volkswagen Group SSP, costing about €1.8bn, which prompted Bentley to rewrite its product plan. Frank-Steffen Walliser, Bentley's chief, said PHEV technology is the firm's bridge to 2035; the Luxury Urban EV remains due in the second half of this year and the next full Bentley EV will arrive after 2030.

The new Bentayga will use the PPC platform shared with the Porsche Cayenne and Audi Q9 and will launch primarily with a 3.0-litre V6 plug-in hybrid that delivers similar output to today's 456bhp while offering a greater electric range than the current 30-mile Bentayga PHEV. Bentley confirmed it will continue to offer pure-ICE power on selective models depending on market demand and legislation.
