Lexus GX550h Trademark Points to Hybrid GX550 SUV

Lexus filed a trademark application for the name "GX550h", indicating the company may be preparing a hybrid version of the GX550 SUV, according to Carbuzz.

The current GX550 uses a twin-turbocharged 3.4-liter V-6 that produces 349 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque, while the related Toyota Land Cruiser pairs a turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder with two electric motors to make 326 horsepower and 465 pound-feet.

Car and Driver notes the GX550h name could point to several hybrid options, from a frugal 2.4-liter-based system similar to the Land Cruiser to a more powerful configuration akin to the LX700h’s 3.4-liter hybrid that makes about 457 horsepower, but Lexus has not confirmed powertrain plans.

Lexus has not confirmed the GX550h or provided a launch timeline; Car and Driver reached out to Lexus for comment and said it does not expect to wait more than a year or two for a hybrid GX to appear.
