Nissan Cuts Lineup to 45 Models, Revives Xterra and Skyline Under Re:Nissan

Nissan will cut its global model lineup from 56 to 45 under the Re:Nissan recovery plan, discontinuing 11 low-performing models and reallocating savings to diversify powertrains across remaining vehicles.

Products will be split into four categories—Heartbeat, Core, Growth and Partner—with Heartbeat slated to include the returning Xterra, the all-new Skyline, the Z sports car, the Leaf EV and the Patrol SUV.

Core models will include the electric Juke, the X-Trail/Rogue Hybrid e-Power, Sentra and the second-generation Juke with hybrid power. Growth models will target rising markets and include the next-generation Elgrand, the Sakura kei electric car and three China-built models.

Partner products will be developed through collaborations such as the Frontier plug-in based on the Dongfeng Z9 and the Micra EV derived from the Renault 5, and Nissan’s Infiniti arm will add four models; Re:Nissan also aims to cut parts complexity 70 percent, reduce platforms from 13 to 7 by 2035 and shorten development timelines.
