New Millennium Motors’ Iconic Brooklyn “Trar” Towed and Crushed by NYC Department of Sanitation

The bright-green Mini-on-Chevy "trar" that sat outside New Millennium Motors in Gowanus was ticketed overnight by the New York City Department of Sanitation and was towed and crushed.

News12 Brooklyn reported the trar was ticketed at 11:30 p.m. on April 7 for lacking a visible VIN and a license plate, and that it was removed at 5:30 a.m. on April 8.

The trar had been displayed outside New Millennium Motors for more than a decade and served as a memorial after owner Andreas Stylianou died in a 2019 car accident; the vehicle was a decorated local landmark.

Jalopnik reported it asked the New York City Department of Sanitation for comment and that DSNY said the lack of a plate or VIN left "no way for the city to contact the owner," adding removals often follow complaints.
