Honda Recalls 440,830 Odyssey Minivans for Curtain Airbag Software Fault

Honda has recalled 440,830 2018–2022 Odyssey minivans because software in the supplemental restraint system can cause second- and third-row curtain airbags to unexpectedly deploy.

The defect stems from SRS control logic that can misinterpret certain inputs as side impacts, causing deployments when vehicles hit potholes, speed bumps or road debris, and Honda reports 130 warranty claims and 25 reported injuries.

Honda first learned of the issue in November 2017 and investigated for nearly four years; by July 2021 it identified poor road surfaces and undercarriage impacts as possible triggers. In October 2025 the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's Office of Defects Investigations opened a Preliminary Evaluation after receiving 18 complaints.

In early April 2026 Honda concluded the defect relates to motor vehicle safety and issued the recall; owners will be instructed to take affected vehicles to an authorized dealer for a free SRS ECU reprogram or replacement with corrected software.
