Nissan plans to revive its sports-car lineup — including a possible return of the Silvia — while cutting lower-volume models to free funds for "passion projects," Richard Candler, Nissan’s global head of corporate product strategy, told The Drive in Japan.
Ivan Espinosa, Nissan CEO, has emphasized that sports cars are central to the brand, and Candler said any Silvia return would need the right pricing and positioning to be accessible. Nissan will shrink its global portfolio from 56 to 45 models and concentrate about 80% of product into three core families.
Candler said Nissan will stop low-running cars to reinvest in stronger nameplates such as Z and Skyline and other sports projects. Christian Meunier, chairman of Nissan Americas, also teased the return of the frame-based Xterra as part of the company’s refocus.
