Ford Mustang GTD Competition Smashes Nürburgring with 6:40.835 Lap

Ford's updated Mustang GTD Competition recorded a 6:40.835 lap at the Nürburgring with professional racing driver Dirk Müller at the wheel, beating the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X by more than eight seconds and improving on the previous GTD time.

Ford says the GTD Competition's 5.2-liter supercharged V-8 has been retuned to exceed the standard GTD's 815 horsepower, and aerodynamic revisions include a DRS-capable rear wing, secondary front dive planes and rear carbon-fiber wheel aero discs. Weight was reduced with new magnesium wheels, carbon-fiber seats and lighter dampers, and Ford fitted higher-performance tires to increase grip.

Ford will offer the Mustang GTD Competition in the next run of Mustang GTD customer cars and has reopened applications to buy one. Ford says the program will be part of the 62nd birthday celebration of the original Mustang, while pricing and availability remain unannounced.
