Liam Lawson Open to Supercars Outing During F1 Break

Racing Bulls driver Liam Lawson said he was contacted about racing in Supercars during Formula 1’s enforced April break but that he prefers to pursue the series later in his career.

Australian outlet MotorRacing 360 reported that Supercars teams approached Lawson to contest New Zealand rounds in Taupo and Christchurch, and Lawson told Motorsport his phone "blew up" with offers.

Lawson said he grew up watching Supercars and praised the series' raw V8s and sequential gearboxes. He added he has driven the car "a couple of times" and would "love" to race there when his F1 commitments allow.

Lawson has previously raced outside F1, finishing runner-up in DTM in 2021 and Super Formula in 2023 and winning the 2019 New Zealand Grand Prix. Other F1 drivers, including Max Verstappen and Lance Stroll, have also contested GT events this year amid frustration with 2026 F1 regulations.
