Ford Nugget Celebrates 40 Years with Retro Special Edition and Plug-In Hybrid Tech

Ford is marking the 40th anniversary of the Nugget camper with a limited retro-themed special edition that revives the original black-and-white design and adds modern luxury touches.

The Nugget debuted in 1986 through a collaboration between Ford and specialist Westfalia as a Transit-based conversion, featuring a rear kitchen and flexible sleeping arrangements for compact everyday use and outdoor travel. Ford introduced the two-zone L-shaped layout in 2000 on the fourth-generation Transit and expanded the Nugget internationally with the Transit Custom in 2013.

The Nugget line evolved with the Big Nugget in 2019 offering an onboard bathroom and Active and Trail variants in 2021 aimed at more rugged use, and the fifth generation in 2023 added plug-in hybrid power and available all-wheel drive. Ford's 2026 anniversary model pairs the retro exterior with upgraded interior features such as a yacht-style floor.
