Puniwai Design’s Hamrhed Roadster Lists with 2010 Smart Fortwo Powertrain

The Hamrhed, a steampunk-style roadster by Puniwai Design, was listed on Facebook Marketplace carrying a 2010 Smart Fortwo powertrain.

Brent Puniwai, the graphic designer and engineer behind Puniwai Design, began the Hamrhed project in the early 2010s and served as vice president of the Kern River Valley Art Association before his death in early 2024.

Puniwai originally envisioned a tilting, enclosed three-wheeler and at one point planned to use a Triumph Speed Triple 1050cc engine. Photos of the Marketplace listing show the Smart Fortwo donor drivetrain, and coverage by Daily Turismo provided few technical details after a reader named Roni shared the listing.

The Hamrhed reflects Puniwai Design's metalwork-oriented projects and the late Brent Puniwai's interest in unconventional automotive design.
