Albon Frustrated as Sainz Advances and Williams Hunt FW48 Issue at Japanese GP

At the Japanese Grand Prix qualifying, Carlos Sainz, a Williams driver, and Alex Albon, a Williams driver, were separated by 0.161 seconds in Q1, with Carlos Sainz advancing to Q2 and Alex Albon failing to progress for a third straight qualifying session.

Alex Albon expressed frustration with the FW48’s performance on team radio and in post-qualifying comments, saying messages suggested the issue was blamed on his driving; race engineer James Urwin told him, "You probably don’t want to know, but you can probably guess."

Albon said the problem has been present since Australia and China despite some fixes and that he remains confident in his driving while the team investigates the remaining issue.

Carlos Sainz’s best Q2 lap was the slowest of the 16 remaining drivers and slower than his Q1 time by more than a second, after which James Vowles radioed it was a "good lap" and "It’s where the car is"; Williams said it will review data overnight.
