Antonelli’s Second F1 Win Makes Him Youngest Title Leader and Joins Rare Back-To-Back Winners

Kimi Antonelli won consecutive Formula 1 races—his maiden F1 victory in China followed by a win in Japan—making him the youngest championship leader in F1 history.

Only 10 drivers have recorded their first two F1 victories in consecutive races out of 82 drivers with at least two wins. Notable examples include Damon Hill (former driver), Mika Hakkinen (former driver), Bruce McLaren (founder and driver), Peter Collins (former driver) and Lewis Hamilton (driver).

Mika Hakkinen (former driver) remains the only competitor to become world champion in the same calendar year he secured his second consecutive win; his successive victories were the 1997 finale and the 1998 opener. Kimi Antonelli achieved his two wins early in his second season, a timing previously matched by Damon Hill and Charles Leclerc (driver).
