Aston Martin–Honda Project May Take Years, Alex Jacques Says Alonso May Not Wait

Formula 1 commentator Alex Jacques said Formula 1 driver Fernando Alonso may not have enough seasons left to witness the Aston Martin–Honda partnership deliver after a difficult start to the year. Jacques made the remarks during an F1 season start debrief video.

Aston Martin’s first car designed under Adrian Newey suffered major issues and the team currently sits last in the constructors’ standings, Jacques noted, but he also highlighted positives about Newey’s record and Honda’s eventual performance improvements. Jacques said Honda has historically taken time to get results.

Jacques praised Fernando Alonso’s racecraft and performance at age 44 but expressed doubt Alonso will still be racing when Aston Martin and Honda reach their expected competitiveness. He said the collaboration has the resources to succeed, but that success will likely require years.
