Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll to Race GT World Challenge Europe at Paul Ricard

Lance Stroll will race the opening GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup round at Paul Ricard this weekend in a Comtoyou Racing Aston Martin Vantage GT3 Evo with Roberto Merhi and Mari Boya.

Stroll said Aston Martin’s ongoing struggles in Formula 1 and an unexpected five-week break on the F1 calendar prompted the entry, noting he has yet to register a classified finish in the opening three rounds and team-mate Fernando Alonso has not scored a point.

Aston Martin has invested in infrastructure and signed Adrian Newey, but Stroll said the works partnership with Honda has been strained by an uncompetitive power unit that suffers from vibrations.

Stroll described the Paul Ricard outing as a chance to “change things up,” thanked Comtoyou team owner Jean-Michel Baert for organising the drive, and said he discussed GT plans with Max Verstappen and could consider further sportscar outings if he feels fit.
