Atlanta Mechanic’s TikTok Warning After Finding J‑B Weld, DIY Fixes on Sonata

Cars2Work Auto Repair, a TikTok creator and Atlanta mechanic, said he advised a customer to consider selling a 2018 Hyundai Sonata after finding J‑B Weld and other DIY fixes on the transmission.

The customer had paid for a new starter and an oil change; when the mechanic put the Sonata on a lift he found J‑B Weld bonder on the transmission, crimped transmission lines, and silicone on a spark plug. After returning the keys he told the customer his honest opinion that the weld suggested a past transmission crack and recommended selling the car, but the customer said he still owed money.

Cars2Work Auto Repair noted the Sonata was running fine with no transmission codes and a slow leak from the J‑B Weld, and he said he worried his opinion may have unnecessarily alarmed the owner. He added that while an educated guess could be made about reduced transmission life, there is no way to know for certain.

The March 4 TikTok video drew supportive comments praising Cars2Work Auto Repair for disclosing the condition despite the risk of alarming the customer.
