Pete Bowbliss, general manager of Auto Fitness in Gainesville, Georgia, said a viral TikTok parody shows customers insisting on costly radiator replacements to fix air-conditioning failures.
The TikTok clip, played by a Georgia mechanic and viewed more than 9,400 times, comically portrays a customer refusing diagnostic questions and insisting the radiator be replaced. Bowbliss told Motor1 that many customers bring their own code reader or an AutoZone/NAPA code read and that single codes can point to multiple faults, so his shop focuses on pinpoint diagnostics.
Bowbliss explained that cooling-system leaks typically leave visible signs and can be pressure-tested, while air-conditioning faults require evacuation, recharge and UV dye checks to locate leaks. He warned that replacing major components like a radiator without proper diagnostics can cost customers more than $1,000 and "if I replace something and it doesn’t fix the problem, then we didn’t do our job."
