Ayrton Senna’s Toleman TG183B-05 to Auction at RM Sotheby’s in Monaco

RM Sotheby's will auction Ayrton Senna's first Formula 1 car, the Toleman TG183B-05, in Monaco later this month with a pre-sale estimate of $3,250,000–$4,450,000.

Ayrton Senna raced the TG183B-05 in the opening four rounds of the 1984 season—Brazil, South Africa, Belgium and San Marino—and the chassis, while never raced in Monaco, would be eligible for the Monaco Historic Grand Prix. The car retains original details, including the misspelled "Aryton" on the footrest, and is fitted with a period-correct Hart 415T inline-four engine with a rebuilt turbocharger and transmission.

Sky Sports organized a demonstration run of the Toleman TG183B for Pierre Gasly, Alpine driver, to mark the 40th anniversary of Senna's debut and the 30th anniversary of his death, and Pierre Gasly described the experience as "incredible" and "very, very special."

Toleman later evolved through Benetton and Renault ownership into the Enstone-based team now known as Alpine, a lineage that underscores the historic significance of the TG183B-05 and its public appearances.
