BMW to Debut China Long-Wheelbase iX3 with Conventional Door Handles at Beijing Auto Show

BMW will debut a China-specific long-wheelbase iX3 at the Beijing Auto Show next month, replacing flush door handles with conventional handles to comply with a Chinese rule banning flush designs from January 1, 2027.

BMW revealed the stretched-wheelbase iX3 on its Weibo account and plans to begin sales in China shortly after the show. The wheelbase is 3,005 mm, 108 mm longer than the global model, which yields longer rear doors and a larger greenhouse.

The China iX3 features an updated roof spoiler with an integrated central camera for advanced driver assistance developed in partnership with Momenta. BMW quotes a CLTC range of over 900 km, 400 kW charging capability and a 10–80% charge time of 21 minutes.

BMW said China will initially receive the iX3 50 xDrive dual-motor variant but has not disclosed combined output or battery capacity. The long-wheelbase iX3 will also be offered in India, Thailand, Indonesia and Malaysia, and models already approved must comply with the rule by January 1, 2029.
